Chronology
8/20/02 - 8am arrived at hospital for observation and induction. only 2cm dilated
9am - First Cytotech application (cytotech help efface the cervix)
12noon - 2nd application of cytotech
1pm - first labor pains | |
3pm very intense pain. Nubain given to Sabina
She slept from 3pm-7pm | |
7pm she started feeling pain again. We walked every hour for 15 minutes.
Katharina and Keni return at 10pm; Walked at 10:39pm
11pm water broke; she was given Nubain again.
8/21/02 - 1:30 am, She woke with extreme pain. Matt ran to get a nurse. 1:45 prep for epidural
2am - Dr. Rosler finishes epidural
We slept until 8am - Nurse Lisa arrives. Contractions continue at a steady pace
11am her contraction are steady every 2 minutes. She is not feeling heavy pain
1:45 Dr. Glenn says she is 8.5cm
2:30 Dr. Glenn informs of possibility of c- section. fetal monitoring is showing signs of increased heart rate. 160bpm was the average and now it is peaking over 180bpm. Dad is getting very nervous. Sabina's parents are getting upset too.
3:00 fetal monitoring show heart rate steady at 190's and in the 200's. 3:15 showing steady around 200bpm. Dr. Glenn informs that we want a heart rate that is NOT staying steady. One that is 180 then 175 then 179 etc. But the heart rate is staying at a steady 198 to 200. This is a bad sign. She is given diagnosis of possible infection from the water breaking. She is given Tylenol and then antibiotics
3:15 Dr. Glenn says Dr. Rothenberg wants to watch for an hour. Uterine Contractions appear to have stopped; 210BPM was the highest. the average still appears to be flat or steady rate. Contractions could come back if infection is dampened.
3:30 fetal monitoring shows heart rate is subsiding to 170 BPM but still staying at constant rate. Heart rate goes back down to 160's and we are all relieved. Contractions are not occurring though.
5:30 Dr. Golichowski relieves Dr. Rothenberg. He states that her cervix dilation is not increasing and this could mean that the uterus is fatigued from the contractions. If this goes on she risks getting infection possibly pneumonia etc.
6:00 Sabina takes a nap and we go to dinner.
6:45 I (dad) can't stick around dinner. I run back to Sabina.
7:00 Dr. Golichowski chooses decisively that cesarean must be performed.
7:15 I (dad) paces back and forth.
7:30 enter the delivery room
7:44 I (son) arrive. :) I did not cry I was so happy to see my parents. I never cried that night. |
